This month we had an interview with Chloe, aged 14, who came into our office to do some work experience for a day.

Why did you choose Deafax for your work experience?

“I chose Deafax over other places as I thought it would be more interesting and different to the other jobs available.”

Had you had any experience of Deafness before coming here?

“No, none at all.”

What is the biggest thing you’ve learnt about Deafness?

“I have been working on Excel today and going through the funding applications and realised how difficult it can be to secure funding, there are a lot of applications that have been turned down.”

What do you see yourself doing in the future?

“I am not entirely sure yet, but probably something to do with animals.”

How do you think Deafness impacts on people’s lives?

“I think that it affects them quite a lot, in their day-to-day lives, and for those around them who may not understand what they are trying to say.”

Today you met Rubbena, is she one of the first Deaf people you have met? And if so, how did you find talking to her?

“Yes, Rubbena is one of the first Deaf people I have met, and I found talking to her very inspirational.”
